    The purpose of this bulletin is to assist IEP teams in engaging in a meaningful, data driven discussion to determine when Extended School Year (ESY) services are necessary for the provision of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for students with disabilities.

    It is District policy that the guidelines and procedures outlined in this Bulletin be followed when students on the alternate curriculum are identified by IEP teams as needing an alternate English language proficiency assessment in lieu of participation in all or part of the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).

    The purpose of this Bulletin is to articulate the Los Angeles Unified School District’s policy regarding the required procedures for determining the educational placement of students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

    The purpose of this Bulletin is to inform Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams of the policies and procedures that must be followed in order to refer a student with disabilities whose least restrictive environment (LRE) placement is determined by the IEP team to be a nonpublic school (NPS) setting. This Bulletin also includes information regarding procedures for student placement in a District-contracted NPS that is affiliated with a residential treatment center (NPS/RTC).

    Pursuant to California Education Code (EC) 41851.2 it is the District’s responsibility to develop special education transportation guidelines for use by IEP teams that clarify when special education services are required.

    The purpose of this policy bulletin is to (1) clarify the roles, responsibilities and authority of IEP teams in regards to provision of non-public agency services and placements, (2) clarify the role of non-public agency providers at IEP meetings, and (3) clarify the role and authority of school site administrators in the development of IEPs and reiterate the basic principle that no single individual can control IEP team decisions.

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to (a) notify schools of the revision of A Parent’s Guide to Special Education Services (Including Procedural Rights and Safeguards), September 2018, (b) provide information on the delivery of the revised Guides to schools, and (c) provide instructions on how to obtain additional copies of the Guide, as needed.

     

    REF-1596.11:   Oral Interpretation at an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team Meeting, September 10, 2018

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform school administrators of the due date and procedures for completing and submitting the school roster of staff eligible to provide oral interpretation in the home language of the parent when requested at IEP team meetings. Included are procedures, forms, and resources to assist schools in providing oral interpretation at IEP team meetings when requested by a parent.

    REF-4568.1:   Service Completion Criteria for Speech Language Impairment (SLI) Eligibility and Language and Speech (LAS) Services, August 24, 2015

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to assist IEP teams in following the California Education Code requirements when considering the status of service completion (dismissal) for students who have been identified as having a primary eligibility of Speech Language Impairment (SLI) or who have received Language and Speech (LAS) services as a support to a primary eligibility for special education. This reference guide will assist school site IEP teams and other personnel to appropriately meet the communication needs of students in the least restrictive environment.

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to provide schools with a copy of the District’s “English/Spanish Glossary of LAUSD Terminology” which includes special education terms and phrases for schools to use in oral or written translation for Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, IEP documents and other communication with parents where translation from English to Spanish is necessary. In addition, a web address is provided so that this valuable glossary can be downloaded at no cost from the internet.
