Staff Relations provides guidance and assistance to site administrators and department supervisors in the areas of job performance, evaluation, discipline, demotion, and dismissal of certificated and classified employees. We provide information and direction in resolving employee and collective bargaining agreement-related issues and concerns, as well as services necessary to ensure appropriate administration of employer-employee relations as defined in the Government Code, Education Code, California Administrative Code - Title 5, Board Rules, and relevant collective bargaining agreements, in accordance with District policy and goals. Staff Relations also processes employee grievances, facilitates grievance step meetings with unions and supervisors, and represents the District in arbitrations and at Personnel Commission appeal hearings.  In addition, we assist the Office of General Counsel in responding to complaints filed with the Public Employment Relations Board.

Each Region is assigned two Field Directors who work with certificated employee issues, and one Senior Human Resources Representative to assist with classified employee matters. Centrally assigned are one Staff Relations Administrator to assist with certificated management discipline and performance issues across the District, and one Senior Human Resources Representative to assist central site supervisors with classified employee issues.
