Who We Are
The Elementary English Learner Instructional team are dedicated advocates for English Learners. We ensure that our culturally and linguistically diverse students engage in and achieve with intellectually rigorous and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. These experiences promote high levels of proficiency in English, including academic language, as well as academic achievement across the curriculum through the use of the CA ELD Standards in tandem with all content area standards. Another aspect of our advocacy is to ensure that our educators approach learning with an assets-based mindset. An assets-based perspective honors students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds and incorporates what students already know into teaching.
What We Do
The Elementary EL Instructional team designs professional development and resources that build the capacity of all stakeholders and results in the effective implementation of the CA ELD Standards for English Learners.
How We Do It
We continuously work directly with Local District English Learner Coordinators, Title III Coaches, Elementary schools, individual teachers, and parents of English Learners in building capacity.
Please join us in our vision and help our English Leaners experience a coherent, articulated, and aligned set of practices and pathways across contexts, beginning in early childhood, through reclassification and graduation, and in preparation for college and careers in the 21st century.
