Safe Steps to Safe Schools

  • Campus and Facilities Access / Visitor Policies

    2022-23 School Year

Los Angeles Unified has organized the following guide to inform school communities about safety access requirements at school sites and District facilities. This guidance was last updated on August 18, 2022.

  • Parents and Guardians Visiting a School Campus or District Facility

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a parent or guardian if I am going to visit a school campus or District facility for general questions and inquiries, to access information, attend parent engagement workshops, meetings, and activities, or attend a campus tour or Open House?

Parents and families must verbally respond to the Daily Health Check questions upon arrival on campus. This applies to parents and families visiting a school campus or District facility for a transaction that may include asking questions, requesting information or content for the child, families attending school tours, and attending on-campus workshops, meetings and activities.

Parents and Guardians Attending IEP, Intake and Assessments, Classroom Observations, Mandated Training, and Conferences with School Staff

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill if I am attending a 1-1 or small group session with school personnel that is required, and student-centered?

Parents and families must verbally respond to the Daily Health Check questions upon arrival on campus.

Parents, Families and Community Participating In After-School Sporting Events or Performances

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a spectator in order to attend a Los Angeles Unified sporting event or performance held on school facilities after school hours?

Spectators attending competitions or performances after school hours will be asked to verbally respond to the Daily Health Check questions before accessing the venue. This guidance is aligned to direction provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

    School Volunteer Program

What safety protocols and requirements must I fulfill in order to serve as a school volunteer at a Los Angeles Unified facility?

School volunteers must upload proof of COVID-19 vaccination into the Daily Pass. They will also be asked to complete the online application available at https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10443 in order to receive a badge and to continue volunteering for a longer period of time. A Single Event Volunteer may serve for the day as long as the campus administrator verifies proof of COVID-19 vaccination, California Megan’s Law Website Clearance and collects a copy of the Signed Liability Waiver available at click here.

    Partnerships and No-Cost MOUs

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a community agency or service provider that has a Memorandum of Understanding with Los Angeles Unified in order to continue serving at a Los Angeles Unified facility?

External non-profit organizations offering school sites with no-cost services complete a no-cost memorandum of understanding (MOU) in coordination with Los Angeles Unified Wellness Programs, following guidance available at https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/14113#spn-content. After the MOU is approved, personnel from the organization who will interact with the school campus request a single sign-on at https://oneaccess.lausd.net/. The Single Sign-On activates a Los Angeles Unified account for persons to use the Daily Pass to complete the District’s COVID-19 vaccination safety requirements. This includes the organization completing the COVID-19 Vaccination Certification Form for all personnel providing services on school campuses/facilities.

Parent Organizations (PTA, PTO and Booster Clubs Parent Members)

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a member of a parent organization (PTA, PTO, Booster Club) if I am volunteering on a Los Angeles Unified campus and facility in order to continue serving at a Los Angeles Unified facility?

Parent organization members volunteering at a Los Angeles Unified facility during school hours must meet the COVID-19 vaccination requirement adopted by Los Angeles Unified for personnel. This includes having COVID-19 vaccination on file in the Daily Pass. To access the Daily Pass for volunteer activities, complete the School Volunteer Program application available at https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10443. If Parent Organizations wish to host a fundraiser after school hours, contact your school site and refer to BUL-1633.3 available at https://achieve.lausd.net/domain/849. Vaccination is not required if a person is attending a PTA, PTO, and Booster club meeting or event during school hours. For meetings and events during school hours they must verbally respond to the Daily Health Check questions upon arrival on campus.

Facilities Real Estate & Asset Development

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a third-party organization who is using school facilities after school hours and on weekends under a license or permit, in order to continue serving at a Los Angeles Unified facility?

Third parties using a school facility after hours and on weekends under a District issued permit or license are required to follow the guidance provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for the activity, location on the campus (indoor or outdoor) age group, etc. (Do not use Daily Pass for after school and weekend activities.)

    Counselors and Student Teachers

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as a college intern from an organization or university who has established an agreement with Los Angeles Unified in order to continue serving at a Los Angeles Unified facility?

College students who need to fulfill service hours as part of their program of study must contact their program to determine if they have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Los Angeles Unified. If the program is a District approved program, college student interns may contact AskHR@lausd.net to request an assignment with Los Angeles Unified. Once approved the intern will request a single sign-on at https://oneaccess.lausd.net/. The Single Sign-On activates a Los Angeles Unified account for persons to use the Daily Pass to fulfill the District’s COVID-19 vaccination safety requirements. This includes for student interns to upload their COVID-19 vaccination card in the Daily Pass.

Contractors, Vendors, and other Partner Organizations (including major league sports and philanthropic partners)

What safety protocols and requirements should I fulfill as an employee of a third-party contractor or partner organization of Los Angeles Unified (including major sports and philanthropic organizations)?

Third-party vendors, contractors, and partners are required to complete a Vaccination Certification Form via their sponsoring District office to self-certify that all personnel have met the Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 safety requirements, including COVID-19 vaccination. These groups do not use Daily Pass. Guidance to self-certify is available at: https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/3904.
