A Day in the Life at Los Angeles Unified

Every day, over 60,000 hard-working women and men at Los Angeles Unified come together to help our students get a great education. At each school I’ve visited, I am inspired by how it all comes together.

Collage From our bus drivers who bring our students to school safely, to our food service staff who provide healthy meals, to our facilities crews who maintain our schools to those who help keep our schools clean and safe…and of course, our principals, teachers, counselors, nurses, aides and everyone who all work together to serve the needs of our students. We have a great team.

I recently had the opportunity to work alongside a couple of great teams at schools. Their dedication and those I have met over the past months is inspiring.

Did you know that Los Angeles Unified serves more than a million meals a daySupt Cafeteria including breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

Our bus drivers drive almost 60,000 miles daily. That is enough to circle the earth twice every day.

Los Angeles Unified school campuses occupy more than 80 million square feet of buildings which is about the size of downtown San Francisco. Over the course of a year, we will repair or replace almost 1 million floor tiles to provide a clean and welcoming environment for our students and staff.

To all of my colleagues, thank you for your hard work.
