Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet Selected for Prestigious Honor - Nov. 22,2019
LOS ANGELES – For a broad array of strengths and successfully using federal funds provided by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to improve the achievement of English Language Learners, Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet has been recognized as a 2019 National ESEA Distinguished School, one of two schools selected in California.
Superior, federally-funded schools are selected annually by the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators. The California Department of Education, like other state education agencies, may select one or two schools a year.
“This is an exceptional honor,” Superintendent Austin Beutner said. “The recognition as a National Distinguished School is a testament to the educators and staff at Bravo for their tireless work to provide students with a great education.”
“The diversity of our student population, the rich cultural, social, ethnic and academic representation of our student body is the strength of our school,” Principal Luiz Lopez said. “We value every single student and will work diligently to make sure they all have access to rich, rigorous academic opportunities. We will match those experiences with as many real life experiences to make their learning relevant and engaging. We love our students, and we love to see them succeed.”
“Bravo Medical Magnet is terrific and continues to support learning and excellence for all, “Mónica García said. “Congratulations.”
“Congratulations to the staff and students at Bravo Medical Magnet for this outstanding achievement,” Local District Superintendent Jose Huerta said. “The diversity of the student body is its greatest asset, and its academic achievement was rewarded with this prestigious honor.”
To be eligible for the honor, schools must have a poverty rate of at least 35 percent; demonstrate high academic achievement for two or more consecutive years, and meet or exceed state accountability criteria based on two or more consecutive years of achievement data.
