    School-based occupational therapy and physical therapy in LAUSD is a rewarding opportunity to provide OT and PT services under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act):

    • Assess students within their educational settings, using an ecological model of assessment to determine their needs.
    • Provide treatment, program consultation, and environmental modifications for students with disabilities to improve student function within the educational environment
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including students, parents, teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, adapted physical education teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, speech teachers, etc.
    • Travel between schools to provide occupational therapy or physical therapy services to students who have been identified to require OT or PT services.

    School-based occupational therapy addresses purposeful, goal-directed activities to improve student function within the educational environment, in the following areas:

    • Postural stability
    • Fine motor skills
    • Visual motor perception and visual motor integration
    • Activities of daily living
    • Motor planning
    • Coordination
    • Sensory processing
    • Self-help activities
    • Social and play abilities
    • Environmental adaptations
    • Use of assistive devices

    School-based physical therapy addresses purposeful, goal-directed activities to improve student function within the educational environment, in the following areas:

    • Motor planning
    • Sensorimotor coordination
    • Posture
    • Balance
    • Functional Mobility
    • Activities of daily living
    • Accessibility
    • Environmental adaptations
    • Use of assistive devices

    • Effective immediately, new hires in the positions of Occupational/Physical Therapist will be rated in on Pay Scale 33D on the Special Services Table as follows:
       

      B-Basis (Regular School  year + Extended School Year)
      - Salary $81,821 (first year) to $101,895 (fifth year)
      - 197 work days
      - 10 sick days
      - Work Extended School Year (4 to 5 hour days)

       

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - OT

    • An earned bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Therapy.
    • A certificate from National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
    • A California Occupational Therapy License 
    • A driver's license

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - PT

    • An earned bachelor's,  master's or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Therapy.
    • A California Physical Therapy License 
    • A driver's license
