2017-2018 Student Member of the Board
ALEXANDER HAMILTON SENIOR HIGH – Board District 1/Local District West
My passion for public service began when I was told to write an education bill in the YMCA program, Youth and Government. The bill passed both the Senate and Assembly, yet was vetoed by the Youth Governor. In that moment I realized that though I may not pass every piece of legislation, I should never stop speaking up for what I believe in. And public service embodies that ideal. Since then, I have been the campaign manager for two Youth Governor Candidates, and was selected as one of seven to serve on the Youth Governor’s cabinet. This passion extends into LAUSD through my work with Sandy Hook Promise as the youngest Promise Presenter in the country. In this role, I travel to different LAUSD schools and give presentations promoting the idea of a more inclusive, therefore healthier, campus. On a national level, I am the president of the only teen campaign in the country to end gun violence, the California Brady Teen Chapters. The campaign’s slogan is “though they may not see our votes, let them hear our voices.” It is this ideal I want to bring to the Board of Education, and I hope you allow me the opportunity.
