Teacher Support and Development (TSD) of the LAUSD Human Resources Division serves a wide range of education professionals. The TSD branch consists of five collaborative units: Peer Assistance and Review, Teacher Quality, The Teacher Support Unit, and The Teacher Training Academy.Collectively, these units coordinate and offer a variety of professional programs and services including: Added Authorizations, Beginning Teacher Growth and Development Induction, The Clear Educational Specialist Induction Program, The LAUSD 40-Hour Teacher Academy, National Board Certified Teachers, The Peer Assistance and Review Program, Provisional Teacher Support, Salary Point Credit, The Subject Matter Prep Program, Teacher Support Network, The Teacher for Permit on Statutory Leave Program, The Teacher Quality Program, and University Intern Support.

The District Intern Program is an Alternative Teacher Certification Program accredited by the State of California with a history of successfully training educators to provide effective instruction to students of all abilities across a wide range of settings.

The Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Program is governed by a collaborative panel comprised of 5 UTLA teachers and 4 District administrators. PAR employs Consulting Teachers who provide confidential support to teachers who have received a below standard evaluation, and to teachers who request assistance. Additionally, PAR provides professional development classes throughout the year, open to all teachers, and provides 6 hours of credit per class toward a salary point. PAR has one goal – to support teachers with effective instructional strategies in a confidential and collaborative peer to peer structure, in order to ensure the best possible educational experience for all LAUSD students.

The mission of the Teacher Quality Program is to support the growth and development of new teachers by providing emotional assistance, community building, access to resources, and instructional strategies to promote a successful first year of teaching and retention in the District.

The Teacher Support Unit provides support to teachers in several diverse areas.
- Provisional Teacher Support for meeting requirements, including advisement, vouchers for CSET exams and a mentor teacher
- Support for University Interns including advisement and assignment of a mentor teacher
- The Support Network assists teachers seeking National Board Certification
- The NBC Programs office continues support for those who have achieved National Board Certification
- The Salary Point Credit office provides information and support for Salary Point guidelines and opportunities
- New Hire Support including mentor teachers and targeted professional development opportunities

The Teacher Training Academy provides pre-service and training to all alternatively certified teachers in LAUSD. The training is designed to prepare new teachers with the necessary skills to be effective classroom practitioners at the start of their teaching assignments. In addition, the Academy also provides differentiated pre-service and concurrent training for District Interns, general education instructors, substitutes, credentialed educators new to Special Education, Teach for America, and foreign credentialed teachers.
