Safe Steps to Safe Schools

  • Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 Testing Program

Los Angeles Unified is providing COVID-19 testing for all students and staff

All students and employees, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, participating in in-person instruction must participate in ongoing weekly COVID-19 testing. This is in accordance with the most recent guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Additionally, all students and staff are required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 “baseline” test in order to come onto campus.

Tests are free, quick, easy, and your personal information will remain confidential!

  • Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 Vaccination Initiative

    STUDENT VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

The science is clear – vaccinations are an essential part of protection against COVID-19. In order to reduce transmission and ensure students can remain on campus in the safest possible environment and receive the best education possible, Los Angeles Unified is requiring students 12 and older who attend school in-person to be in compliance with the vaccine requirement by the start of the Fall 2022 semester, unless the student has an approved medical exemption or qualifies for conditional admissions. Proof of vaccination or medical exemption must be uploaded to the Daily Pass. Students who have conditional admissions are not exempt from the mandate, but have a longer time frame to get the vaccine.

Students turning 12 soon, should receive their first vaccine dose no later than 30 days after their 12th birthday, and their second dose no later than 8 weeks after their 12th birthday.

At this time, booster shots are not required for students, but are strongly encouraged for anyone 12 and over. Pfizer boosters are available for eligible 12+ year-old students at our Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

Students and families that have questions or concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are encouraged to call our family hotline at 213-443-1300 and review our Frequently Asked Questions.

    VACCINATIONS FOR STUDENTS AGES 5-11

With the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for 5- to 11-year-old children, we are delighted to be able to offer voluntary vaccine access to students in this age group. The COVID-19 vaccine is highly encouraged for children ages 5-11. However, it will not be part of Los Angeles Unified’s current student vaccine requirement.

Beginning November 8, our mobile vaccination teams will offer the vaccine to students in this age group.

Starting on November 16, 13 school-based family and wellness centers will offer the vaccine to students 5- to 11-years old. (These wellness centers already offer vaccinations to students 12 and older.) We will also have school-based clinics offering the vaccine on select Saturdays (more info to come). Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments can be made on the Daily Pass.

    VACCINATION THROUGH SCHOOL-ASSIGNED MOBILE TEAMS

In addition to these sites, mobile vaccination teams will be visiting schools to vaccinate student and staff on a weekly basis.
