STEP UP participants are advised to apply for a teaching position during their final term of student teaching, as long as all other requirements and tests have been completed.
Alternative certification candidates may apply once all required tests and the baccalaureate degree have been completed.
When completing the online application please mark "Paraeducator Career Ladder" when answering the question "How did you hear about teaching positions with LAUSD?" In addition, be sure to bring up your paraprofessional experience and STEP UP as your preparation for becoming a teacher during your formal interview.
Please be aware, that applications are being accepted year round and considered active for a period of 1 year from the date submitted. Active applications are reviewed and moved along for eligibility based on the needs of the District, not in the order received.
All individuals must first complete an online application and successfully complete the eligibility process through Human Resources prior to apply to and interviewing at school sites for specific teacher positions.

STEP UP participants are welcome to apply to become a substitute teacher, when they meet the requirements. However, STEP UP to Teach is for assisting paraprofessionals become teachers; substitute teachers are no longer eligible for STEP UP to Teach services.
