    Stepping into the Next Gen...

    This is a time of transition as we prepare to implement the Next Generation Standards (NGSS) in 2018-2019.

    Many ambitious teachers are already teaching within the new framework and digging deep into the NGSS.

    Our science goals this year are to...

    • experiment with the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices, and
    • Do units, not just lessons. Keep doing those great and engaging lessons and leverage them with other connected lessons to support the development of scientific literacy and the construction of big ideas over time.

     

     Timeline  

    The LAUSD 3-year timeline for an at-a-glance overview, LAUSD/CA NGSS Timeline (as of Sept, 2016):

    • Full NGSS Implementation – 2018-2019 School Year (as of Sept, 2016)
    • New Instructional Materials will be adopted by the State in 2018-2019. LAUSD will adopt instructional materials after that.

    FOSS Donations:

    If your school would like to clear out old versions of the FOSS kits and put them to good use, please email: lillian.valadez-rodela@lausd.net and/or call Nancy Bentov (818) 831-8330 at the Granada Hills Science Materials Center.  The materials will be reused to build new kits for schools that are short on materials within LAUSD.

     

    FOSS Kit Refurbishment Program:
