The 2015-16 California Budget was signed by Governor Brown on June 24, 2015. The following links take you to the text of the Budget.
On December 10, 2015, President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), a bipartisan compromise to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The new law gives states greater autonomy by shifting control back to the states and local districts. Many of the important aspects of the ESSA, such as accountability, are consistent with the work California has already been doing to establish a new accountability system to replace the previous Academic Performance Index (API).
The reauthorization of ESEA is a significant milestone, but considerable work must now be done at the state level to implement the accountability system envisioned by the new federal law. The LAUSD Office of Government Relations intends to work closely with our appropriate District offices and community partners to ensure the LAUSD is part of the discussions in Sacramento and to help develop an accountability system that is in the best interest of our students.Here are some helpful resources to understand the new law:Full text of the "Every Student Succeeds Act", S. 1177, is available here.
