Educationally Related Intensive Counseling Services (ERICS) is on the continuum of related services under Designated Instructional Service (DIS). Special education students are assessed for ERICS eligibility when their counseling needs in terms of behavior and emotional support are greater in terms of frequency, duration or intensity. These needs are manifested in the school, home and community settings and affect the student’s ability to access their educational program.

    The ERICS department oversees the students’ educational placement and program for those special education students who have been identified as requiring a more restrictive setting and services such as those offered in a nonpublic school/residential treatment center (NPS/RTC). ERICS in LAUSD are offered by credentialed Psychiatric Social Workers and credentialed School Psychologists.
