Retiree Employment Information

  • It is critical to the academic success of out students to have an effective leader at every school.  Therefore, we continue to leverage the experience and expertise of proven educators by processing retirees to work as interim administrators. 

    This chronological checklist is critical to assist you (the retiree) with future processing:

  • Submit to HR a completed Statement of Substitute Availability to notify HR of your interest  and availability. 
  • HR will place your name on a list that indicates you would like to work as a substitute administrator but will need to process.  This list is made available to all hiring administrators. 
  • Once you have been offered an assignment, HR will contact you to fingerprint and have you submit the necessary employment documents (refer to Retiree Employment Packet).
  • Once fingerprinted, you must begin an interim assignment within 60 days or must be re-fingerprinted.
  • Once you have been offered an assignment and your fingerprints have cleared, submit proof of current physical and tuberculosis clearance (refer to Medical Forms).
  • Upon clearance, you may begin your service for the students of LAUSD.
  • Please note:

  • As of November 1, 2014 District policy state that all returning employees must be fingerprinted.
  • Any CalSTRS member who retired after January 1, 2013 is subject to the zero-dollar earnings limit during the first 180 calendar days following the retirement effective date.
  • All retirees are subject to an earnings limit which changes each school year.  Effective July 1, 2015 the earnings limit is $40,321.
