  • Summer Arts Studio for Educators

Posted by GRACE PARK on 5/24/2018

This summer The Music Center will offer the Summer Arts Studio for Educators. Formerly known as the Institute for Educators, this program consists of three weeks of events tailored for grades K-12 classroom teachers, arts teachers, and educators!

Arts Integration Symposium – July 18th – July 20th: This three-day Symposium for K-12 educators will offer a variety of workshops led by expert teaching artists in performing and visual arts, connecting English Language Arts, History, Math, English Language Development, 21st Century Learning Skills and much more! Working in collaboration with teaching artists from The Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center (Day 1), Music Center teaching artists will provide educators with a range of arts integration techniques that can be implemented in many classroom settings. The Symposium will conclude with an evening reception on July 20 and an invitation to Dance Downtown in Grand Park.

Arts Integration Retreat – July 23rd & July 24th: Shaping Social Emotional Learning through Music and Movement will allow teachers to build skills with SEL core competencies. This two-day training for K-12 educators, led by The Music Center master teaching artists Andrew Grueschow (music) and Chisa Yamaguchi (movement), will look at SEL in more substantial ways, equipping participants with creative and innovative strategies for their classrooms.

Arts Integration Camp – July 30th – August 3rd: Expressing Science for the Next Generation through Creative Movement & Visual Arts will align to Next Generation Science Standards(NGSS). This five-day training will offer participants valuable arts-based skills and strategies that apply directly to the classroom. The Music Center master teaching artists Dawn Dyson (creative movement), Joan Harrison and Alvaro Asturias (visual arts), along with Rachel Green (science content expert), will once again join forces to lead K-6 educators in these workshops.
