    LAUSD All-Hazard Mitigation Plan

    Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies (SOCES)

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent (PEA-E) Report for the Comprehensive Modernization (Comp Mod) Project at SOCES High School in Reseda, California. The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 1,190 cubic yards of soil at 3 locations demonstrating elevated concentrations of lead and/or arsenic. The soil will be removed during scheduled demolition and construction activities and replaced with certified-clean soil. A discussion of the proposed soil removal activities is included in the Removal Action Workplan (RAW). The public comment and review period for both the PEA-E and the RAW is from October 10, 2017 through November 9, 2017.

    Ulysses S. Grant High School

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent (PEA-E) Report for the Comprehensive Modernization (Comp Mod) Project at Grant High School in Valley Glen, California. The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 18 cu. yards of soil at two locations demonstrating elevated concentrations of lead, arsenic, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The soil was removed, replaced with certified-clean soil, and then transported to a licensed disposal facility in August 2017 as part of a Housekeeping Action. A discussion of the soil removal activities is included in the PEA-E report. The public comment and review period is from October 4, 2017 through November 3, 2017.

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Remedial Action Workplan (RAW) Report for the Comprehensive Modernization (Comp Mod) Project at Grant High School in Valley Glen, California. The RAW presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of three clarifiers and three underground hydraulic hoists during the demolition of the industrial arts (former auto shop), chemistry and arts buildings. A discussion of the clarifier and hydraulic hoist removal activities is included in the RAW report. The public comment and review period is from October 4, 2017 through November 3, 2017.

     

    San Pedro High School 

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Draft Removal Action Workplan report (RAW) for the Comprehensive Modernization Project (Comp Mod) at San Pedro High School in San Pedro, California.  The RAW presents the findings of environmental investigations performed in support of the Comprehensive Modernization Project. The removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 226 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, chlordane and dieldrin is detailed in the RAW. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic, lead, chlordane and dieldrin-impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from September 19, 2017 through October 17, 2017.

     

     

    Cleveland Charter High School, Comprehensive Modernization Project

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent (PEA-E) Report for the Comprehensive Modernization (Comp Mod) Project at Cleveland Charter High School in Reseda, California. The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 10.4 cubic yards of soil at 6 locations demonstrating elevated concentrations of lead, arsenic, or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The soil was removed, replaced with certified-clean soil, and then transported to a licensed disposal facility in April 2017. A Technical Memorandum of the soil removal activities has been prepared. The public comment and review period is from September 1, 2017 through September 30, 2017.

     

    Huntington Park High School

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Removal Action Workplan report (RAW) for the Comprehensive Modernization Project (Comp Mod) at Huntington Park High School in Los Angeles, California.  The RAW presents the findings of environmental investigations performed in support of the Comprehensive Modernization Project. The removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 117 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and/or chlordane is detailed in the RAW. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic-, lead-, and/or chlordane-impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from August 23, 2017 through September 22, 2017.

     

    Roosevelt High School 
     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Roosevelt High School in San Pedro, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 7,019 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and petroleum hydrocarbons. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic, lead and petroleum hydrocarbons impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from August 19, 2017 through September 18, 2017.

     

    San Pedro High School 

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at San Pedro High School in San Pedro, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 226 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and organochlorine pesticides. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic, lead and organochlorine pesticide impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from July 14, 2017 through August 13, 2017.

     

    Jefferson High School

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 229 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and organochlorine pesticides. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic, lead and organochlorine pesticide impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from March 30, 2017 through April 29, 2017.

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Removal Action Workplan report (RAW) for the Comprehensive Modernization Project (Comp Mod) at Venice High School in Los Angeles, California.  The RAW presents the findings of environmental investigations performed in support of the Comprehensive Modernization Project. The removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 185 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic and lead is detailed in the RAW. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic and lead impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from March 14, 2017 through April 13, 2017.
     
     
     
    Venice High School Seismic Modernization Project Lunch Shelter RAW

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Removal Action Workplan report (RAW) for the Lunch Shelter Seismic Modernization Project (SMP) at Venice High School in Los Angeles, California.  The RAW presents the findings of environmental investigations performed in support of the Lunch Shelter Modernization Project. The removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 71 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic is detailed in the RAW. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.  The public comment and review period is from March 1, 2017 through March 30, 2017.
     
     

    Venice Senior High 

     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Venice High School in Los Angeles, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 173.9 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic and lead. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic and lead impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt. The public review period is from February 3, 2017 through March 4, 2017.

     

     Huntington Park High School Comprehensive Modernization Project

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Huntington Park High School in Los Angeles, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, and recommends the removal and proper off-site disposal of approximately 116.7 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and organochlorine pesticides. There is no immediate health risk because the arsenic, lead and organochlorine pesticide impacted soil is currently covered with asphalt.

    93rd Street Elementary School, Food Services Upgrade Project
     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Food Services Upgrade Project at 93rd Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, California. The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and recommended removal of six cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of lead and 120 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic.  At the time of the investigation both areas were covered with asphalt.  The soil was removed and taken to a properly licensed facility off-site in July 2016. A Soil Removal Report has been generated documenting these activities.
     
     
     
     
    Berendo Middle School, Modernization Project

    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) invites public comment on the draft Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Berendo Middle School in Los Angeles, California.  The draft PEA-E present the findings of the environmental investigation performed and recommended removal of one-and-a-half (1.5) cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of lead and three (3) cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic. LAUSD is seeking comments on the draft report prior to finalizing the report and completing the soil removal. Both areas are inaccessible to students, faculty and staff.  The soil is to be removed and taken to a properly licensed facility off-site. Upon completion of the soil removal and confirmation sampling, a Soil Removal Report will be generated and published to this website.
     

    Crenshaw High School, Modernization Project

     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent report (PEA-E) for the Modernization Project at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed, documents the removal and proper off-site disposal of less than one cubic yard of soil with elevated concentrations of arsenic, and recommends the removal and proper off-site of approximately 525 cubic yards of soil containing elevated levels of arsenic. There is no immediate health risk because the contamination is currently covered with asphalt.

    Foshay Learning Center, Seismic Modernization Project
     
     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) has completed a Preliminary Environmental Assessment-Equivalent (PEA-E) for the Seismic Modernization project within the Foshay Learning Center in Los Angeles, California.  The PEA-E presents the findings of environmental investigations performed and documents the removal and off‐site disposal of approximately 80 tons of soil with elevated concentrations of arsenic and lead. During future construction (currently scheduled for Spring 2017) approximately one additional cubic yard of soil containing elevated concentrations of lead is to be removed and properly disposed of off-site.  No risk currently exists as this area is currently and will remain covered with asphalt pavement until the construction begins. 
     
     
     
     
    Jordan High School Bleacher Replacement Project
     
     
    The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Removal Action Workplan (RAW) to remove lead and arsenic impacted soil as part of a Bleacher Replacement Project at the David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles, California.  The RAW proposes excavation of up to 3,600 cubic yards of soil and an Institutional Control to address the lead and arsenic impacted soil. There is no immediate health risk because the contamination is found at depth (greater than 6 inches) and/or is not currently accessible due to surface features (i.e. asphalt).  The removal action is currently scheduled to begin in June 2016.
