LAUSD 40-Hour Teacher Academy
The LAUSD 40-Hour Teacher Academy was established as a collaborative between Los Angeles Unified School District and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA).
This 40 hour training is a condition of employment for alternatively certified teachers new to LAUSD. All contracted and substitute teachers will learn from a talented staff of professional educators who are experienced classroom teachers as well as effective workshop facilitators.
The Academy is a five-day (40 hours) program, designed to train newly hired provisional general education, special education and substitute teachers prior to commencement of their classroom duties.
The Teacher Training Academy is only one of the requirements that must be met before employment contracts are released and teachers may report to work. The training program requires 40 hours of participation over five consecutive days. No fees are required to participate in the 40-hour training and completion of the training does not entitle the participant to any compensation. Enrollment is on-going with classes beginning every Monday (except holidays).
The classes are held Monday through Friday; from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Enrollment applications are to be submitted to the Teacher Training Academy, 14th floor, 333 S. Beaudry Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90017.
