• POST-EXPULSION STUDENT SERVICES (AB922)

     

    The Los Angeles Unified School District’s AB 922 Student Expulsion Support Services Unit was in part established in response to Assembly Bill 922 (AB 922).  This state-mandated program is designed to facilitate the provision of educational and support services for all expelled students.

    The Unit is comprised of a team of professionals led by Pupil Service and Attendance Counselors who work closely with parents, students, District staff, and community agencies to assist students in achieving reinstatement from their current expulsion order.  The goal of the AB 922 Program is to assist students in acquiring academic and social skills that will enhance their ability to have a successful school experience once they transition back to a traditional school program.

    Core program services include:

    • Facilitating appropriate and timely educational placements for all expelled students
    • Conducting thorough AB 922 student/parent intake assessments and developing rehabilitation plans
    • Monitoring student social, behavioral and academic progress
    • Providing direct support services

      • student success team meetings (SST)

      • crisis intervention
      • credit recovery plans
      • parent education
      • school visitations
      • home visitations
    • Consulting, collaborating and coordinating services with District, school staff and community agency personnel
      • Department of Probation
      • Department of Children and Family Services
      • Department of Mental Health
      • Los Angeles County Office of Education
      • Drug Treatment Counseling Centers
      • Gang Intervention Programs
      • Community Counseling Agencies (i.e., anger management, social skills)
    • Facilitating the Reinstatement Review Committee for students who have met eligibility criteria in the areas of academic achievement, attendance and social adjustment
    • Per the Delegation of Authority, recommend reinstatement on behalf of the Board of Education, and place students in appropriate educational programs after reinstatement
    • Providing ongoing services to students not recommended for reinstatement
