• Out of District Expulsion (ODE)

If your son/daughter has been expelled from another school district, private school, or charter school and your child resides within the boundaries of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), you may apply for admission into the District.  The following is the process for you to apply for admission:

    • Contact the Student Discipline and Expulsion Support (SDES) Unit at (213) 202-7555
    • Complete an application for admission intake over the phone, in which basic information about you and your child will be retrieved
    • During the application for admission intake, an SDES counselor will provide you information about your child's educational rights, school placement procedures, and how to clear the expulsion from your child's school record
    • An SDES counselor will request that your child's student records be sent from the expelling institution within 5-school business days
    • Once all of the requested informations is received from the expelling institution, an admission hearing will be scheduled
    • At the admission hearing, your child will be asked by an Expulsion Review Committee (ERC) to discuss his/her expelling incident and any other pertinent issues documented in their school record
    • Based on the information discussed at the hearing, the ERC will deliberate and ultimately determine whether or not your child poses or does not pose a potential danger to the pupils and/or employees of the LAUSD.  After the hearing, the SDES Unit will notify you of the committee's  recommendation in writing
    • The ERC will then submit their recommendation to the Board of Education.  The Board will rule whether they will allow conditional enrollment for your child or whether they will deny enrollment
