Intellectual Ability Testing
Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a new Stay-at-Home Order that went into effect on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Due to the extremely high level of COVID-19 cases in the Los Angeles area, Superintendent Beutner made an announcement on Monday, December 7, 2020 that it is no longer safe and appropriate to have any L.A. Unified students on campus.
Therefore, beginning on Thursday, December 10, 2020, all in-person GATE assessments will be placed "on hold." This temporary suspension will remain in effect until Monday, January 11, 2021 (after winter recess). The District will continue to evaluate the situation and provide updated information as it is available.
Gifted/Talented Programs, Advanced Learning Options, staff will continue to work collaboratively with Student Integration Services to mitigate the impact of the suspension of in-person intellectual assessments on students interested in applying for a gifted magnet. (Currently, referrals can be submitted for all gifted/talented categories.) In addition, Gifted Magnet programs and Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) will continue to utilize the verification of eligibility process for non-identified applicants.
