EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
The mission of Student Integration Services is to provide, through collaborative efforts, educational and tactical services related to compliance and policy issues, to provide support to students, teachers, parents, administrators, superintendents, and support personnel representing the Local Districts, and to ensure maximum success for the varied socio-economic and culturally diverse student population of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has a proud history of appreciating diversity, promoting equity and providing a rigorous instructional program. As the second largest school district in the country, we have a moral obligation to develop quality, integrated educational centers. Student Integration Services respects and appreciates the opportunity to create and support our integrated Magnet settings.
LAUSD Magnet schools and centers continually receive State and Federal awards. Since 1986, more than eighty Magnet schools/centers have been awarded National Blue Ribbon School status. In April 2020, fifteen of our magnet programs were recognized by the national organization for magnet schools, Magnet Schools of America. Two programs received the highest honor and were awarded the Magnet School of Excellence. In December 2019, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond recognized 32 California Distinguished Elementary Schools, more than half (17) were magnet programs. In April 2017, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson recognized 13 LAUSD Gold Ribbon Schools, 12 were magnet programs. Our community believes that the portfolio of Magnet programs provides a quality, viable choice for parents. As the demand for Magnet programs increased so has our capacity. Over the past seven years we have increased the number of schools/centers and magnet seats. Currently, over 90,000 students attend one of our 321 Magnet programs. If LAUSD’s Magnet program were its own district, it would rank as the 34th largest school district in the country between Albuquerque, New Mexico and Denver, Colorado.
Aside from magnet programs, Student Integration Services also houses LA Unified’s Indian Education program. The Indian Education program creates programs that help meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students. It is our goal to provide appropriate supports that will allow our students to meet the same challenging state student academic achievement standards as all other students. Additional information can be found by visiting www.Indianedla.net.
Please do not hesitate to call (213) 241-4177 if you have any comments, questions or concerns. Student Integration Services prides itself on the level of support it provides for our students, parents, schools, and community.
