Buses for Field Trips

  • Schedule a Bus for a Field Trip

    Schools are advised to arrange bus transportation for student trips with the District’s Transportation Services Division.

    To schedule your field trip online, it must meet the following requirements

    • The trip takes place Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • Requested at a minimum of 15 calendar days prior to trip date.

    To organize a successful bus field trip, just follow these three simple steps: 

    Step 1Complete the Online Field Trip Request Application

    Step 2: Follow-up with your school administrator to approve the online application

    Step 3Log online to obtain trip confimation number after 5 business days

    For further assistance in arranging District transportation for student trips, please call the Transportation Services Division at 800-522-8737.

Log on to the online field trip application five business days after you've submitted your trip application to obtain your trip confirmation number.
 
Besides the trip confirmation number, you will also be given the information pertaining to your field trip, such as your school code/location code, date of trip, pick-up time, destination, number of students, etc. Please review all details and make sure everything regarding your trip is correct. If any changes should occur before the time of the trip or if you have not received a trip confirmation number one week prior to the scheduled trip, contact the Dispatch Office at 213-580-2900 or 1-800-LA-BUSES.
 
If you have more than one bus scheduled for the same destination, please be sure to get a confirmation number for each bus booked.
 
If you are unable to use the online application to find your confirmation number, please call the Dispatch Office at 213-580-2900 or 1-800-LA-BUSES.
 

An alternative to completing the application online is available for trips that do not meet the following parameters:

  • The trip takes place Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Requested at a minimum of 15 calendar days prior to trip date

To submit a bus field trip request that does not meet the above parameters follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the appropriate hardcopy forms per the funding source of your trip:

The forms are available for download and for completion using Microsoft Word. To download a form, right click on a form and select "Save Target As...". Select a location to save the file to and click "Save".

  1. Scan and e-mail the hardcopy forms to tsd.fieldtrip@lausd.net.
  2. You will receive an e-mail with a bus confirmation number.

 

 

To modify or cancel a bus reservation, follow the steps below.

  1. Click here. Use your LAUSD single sign-on to log in.   
  2. Complete and submit the change request. Be sure to attach any required documents.
  3. After you submit the form, you must call Dispatch at 213-580-2900 to confirm the changes you requested were made. Take note of the date and time you made the call and name of the Dispatcher that assisted you.
  4. If you made a reservation with your destination, contact the site and cancel or reschedule your reservation.

 Please note, to request additional buses a new field trip application must be submitted.

 

The cost of bus transportation for a field trip is based on the number of hours the bus is requested for. For round trips, the number of hours begins at the requested pick-up time and ends at the requested return time.
 
For one-way trips, the number of hours is twice the hours from the requested pick-up time to the requested arrival time.  This is to cover the cost of returning the bus to its assigned location.

For example, bus transportation for a weekday field trip with a 9:00 AM pick-up time and 2:00 PM return time would cost $410 (5 hours x $82/hr).
 
Transportation costs are not encumbered.
 
If you have any questions regarding the invoice for your field trip, please complete the FIELD TRIP INVOICE - CUSTOMER SERVICE FORM.
 

Along with your Trip Confirmation Report, you will be sent a Field Trip Evaluation form or an e-mail with a link to the online version of the form to fill out at the conclusion of your field trip and return to Customer Service. This enables you to evaluate the driver's skills, and, at the same time, keep the Transportation Services Division informed of how we are conducting our field trips. Continual improvement of our overall service and performance is high on our list of priorities.
