Safe Steps to Safe Schools

  • Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 Testing Program

Los Angeles Unified is providing COVID-19 testing for all students and staff.

All students and employees, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, participating in in-person instruction must participate in ongoing weekly COVID-19 testing. Additionally, all students and staff are required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 “baseline” test in order to come onto campus.

Tests are free, quick, easy, and your personal information will remain confidential!

TESTING BY APPOINTMENT AT STATIONARY SITES

While appointments are encouraged, no appointment is needed for Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 tests.

    TESTING THROUGH SCHOOL-ASSIGNED MOBILE TEAMS

In addition to these sites, mobile testing teams will be visiting schools to test students and staff on a weekly basis.

Check out when the mobile COVID testing team will be at your school:

    TESTING TO RELEASE FROM ISOLATION

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and you are asymptomatic, and you wish to take a rapid antigen test on or after Day 5 of your isolation period to return early to work or school, you can visit a stationary symptomatic testing site.

Employees must take the test and wait for their results at the testing location. It is strongly recommended that students take the test and wait for the results at the location, to ensure accuracy and an automatic upload into the Daily Pass. Students can, however, take the rapid test at home. A photo of the test result must be uploaded onto the Daily Pass and include the individual's full name, date of birth, and date of test on a separate piece of paper, visible in the photo.

  • Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 Vaccination Initiative

    STUDENT VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

The science is clear – vaccinations are an essential part of protection against COVID-19. In order to reduce transmission and ensure students can remain on campus in the safest possible environment and receive the best education possible, Los Angeles Unified is requiring students 12 and older who attend school in-person to be in compliance with the vaccine requirement by the start of the Fall 2022 semester, unless the student has an approved medical exemption or qualifies for conditional admissions. Proof of vaccination or medical exemption must be uploaded to the Daily Pass. Students who have conditional admissions are not exempt from the mandate, but have a longer time frame to get the vaccine.

Students turning 12 soon should receive their first vaccine dose no later than 30 days after their 12th birthday, and their second dose no later than 8 weeks after their 12th birthday.

At this time, booster shots are not required for students, but are strongly encouraged for anyone 12 and over, five or more months after their second dose. Pfizer boosters are available for eligible 12+ year-old students at our Los Angeles Unified COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

Students and families that have questions or concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are encouraged to call our family hotline at 213-443-1300 and review our Frequently Asked Questions.
