Tailored Special Education Training is a mandated, 30-hour, synchronous and asynchronous training for LAUSD teachers who are new to the field of special education. It is designed for special education teachers holding a preliminary permit or waiver. This training is required for potential contract renewal for the next academic school year. This one-week training is offered twice during the summer and once during the winter. Participants will: 1) Acquire knowledge of special education and related laws and their impact on district special education policies; 2) Develop knowledge of LAUSD special education IEP process and preparation; 3) Increase professional learning on Autism Spectrum Disorder; 4) Review and increase implementation practices of Positive Behavior Support; 5) Enhance knowledge of collaborative teaching and develop sustaining partnerships that promote inclusion for all students; 6) Review and Examine LGBTQ & Anti-Bullying Legal and Compliance Policies & Practices; 7) Gain a clear understanding of how to make core curriculum meaningful to English Learners in special education.
