    Financing Your Postsecondary Plans

    Cal Grants                                                                                

     
    Cal Grants are state financial aid for higher education which does not need to be repaid.    

    To be eligible, students must: 
        •    Complete and submit the (FAFSA) or (CADAA) form by the March 2nd deadline   

        •    Meet the eligibility and financial requirements, including the minimum GPA requirements  


    Cal Grants can be used to attend: 
        •    University of California  

        •    California State University   

        •    California Community Colleges  

        •    Independent California Colleges and Universities, and    

        •    Qualifying career colleges  

     

    Verified GPA are uploaded electronically to CSAC by all high schools for all enrolled seniors by October 1st.  


    There are three kinds of Cal Grants: 

        •    Grant A 

        •    Grant B

        •    Grant C   

       

    Eligibility to one of these Cal Grants will be determined by: 
        •    FAFSA or CADAA responses  

        •    Verified Cal Grant GPA  

        •    Type of California school listed on the  FAFSA/CADAA   

        •    Whether the student is  a recent high school graduate   


    Students can only receive one type of Cal Grant at any given time.  When a student applies for Cal Grants, they are not applying specifically for one of the grants, they are being considered for all three types of grants as well as the Middle-Class Scholarship.  The grant deemed most beneficial is applied, and the student is notified of their Cal Grant awarded.
