Begin Your New Career as a School Bus Driver
With more than 1,300 school buses operating throughout LA County, LAUSD relies on an extensive team of school bus drivers to carry out our mission every day. School Bus Drivers are the transportation to graduation.

You could start the road to your new career
Step One: Orientation and Testing
You will attend an orientation, which takes about 3 hours. During the orientation, a basic skills exam will be administered that consists of basic English, grammar and math.
If you are successful on the basic skills exam, we will schedule you for a medical exam and fingerprinting.
Step Two: Start Class
You will receive instructions on how to get your CDL and school bus certificate. Classroom instruction is two weeks in length.
Once you complete the classroom instruction, you will take a written exam with the CHP.
Step Three: Begin the On-the-Road Training
On the road training will take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete. Once you complete the on-the-road training, you will take a driving exam with the CHP.
Step Four: Obtaining Class B License
After you are successful with your CHP driving test, you will take your Temporary certificate to DMV and get your Class B license with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
