    The Los Angeles Unified School District's Career Ladder Office is pleased to announce the Building Our Own Staff as Teachers (BOOST) program.  BOOST is funded by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing's California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program, which provides up to $4,000 per participant per school year from 2017-2022.  The Career Ladder was awarded funding for 45 participants to obtain teaching credentials. 

    BOOST Participants may be any classified staff who has completed a minimum of 60 semester units in college or an Associate of Arts degree and would like to obtain a teaching credential in a District identified high need teaching area.  Currently, Special Education, Physics, Chemistry and Bilingual Education.

    Mentor Meetings

    An annual Mentor Meetings is required for all BOOST members to update progress towards a credential and determine next steps on your Individualized Mentorship Plan (IMP).  Click here to schedule your Mentor Meeting.

     

    BOOST Forms

    Thank you for your patience.  New BOOST forms are now available on the Career Ladder Forms page.

    The annual BOOST allowance is $4,000 for credentialing expenses.  Current allowable expenses include:

    • Tuition Reimbursement (Courses must be passed with a grade of B or better, $200/semester unit for university courses & $40/semester unit for community college courses)
    • Textbooks - Reimbursement only
    • Credential Test Fees (CBEST, CSET, RICA, US Constitution) - Vouchers available
    • Test Preparation courses or materials - Enrollment available for TeachersTestPrep.com and LAUSD's Subject Matter Preparation courses, all others reimbursement only
    • Commission on Teacher Credentialing Fees - Reimbursement only
    • Foreign Transcript Evlaution - Reimbursement only

    Classroom Experiences

    There are four Classroom Experiences (CEs) for each BOOST member to complete.  Classroom Experiences (CEs) are to be completed sequencially and submitted one at a time.  A minimum of one CE must be completed each academic year, but there is not a limit as to how many may be completed in a year.

    • Mentoring and guidance on credentialing requirements and teacher preparation programs
    • Financial assistance up to $4,000 a year for:
      • Tuition Reimbursement
      • Test Fees
      • Test Preparation Assistance
      • Other Credentialing Expenses

    How to Apply

    To apply for the BOOST program, note that ALL 3 steps must be finished in order for an application to be considered complete and be reviewed. 

     

    Applications must be completed by Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 5:00 PM.

     

    Step 1) Prepare PDF of Transcripts and Participant Commitment Form for application upload

    1. a) Transcripts may be unofficial or opened official transcripts
    2. b) If using foreign transcripts, please include the transcript evaluation, if already completed
    3. c) Download and sign Participant Commitment Form ,then scan as a PDF

     

    Step 2) Complete the online application form

    1.  a) Review BOOST Policy Guidefor complete program information
    2.  b) Log in with your LAUSD Single Sign On at http://go.teachinla.com/BOOSTApp
    3.  c) Complete application information and upload requested documents 

     

    Step 3) Principal/Supervisor Recommendation

    1.  a) Download the BOOST Supervisor Recommendation Form
    2.  b) Fill out Section 1 for the applicant
    3. c) Submit the form to your Site Supervisor and/or Site Principal/Administrator
    4.  d) If working at a school site, the Principal Endorsement is also required.
    5.  e) The Evaluator should submit the completed document with requested signatures to the Career Ladder Office via teachinla.com/ladderdocs, fax (213) 241-8465 or email STEPUP@lausd.net

     

    Only completed applicantions will be screened holistically based on the following criteria:

    • GPA (minimum of 2.75)
    • Education completed (minimum of 60 semester units)
    • Progress towards credentialing requirements
    • Principal/Supervisor recommendation
    • Attendance meets LAUSD standards
