I Rise. I Attend. I Matter
In 2012, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles passed a resolution to support new efforts toward keeping students in school and engaged in learning. This resolution proclaimed September as āSchool Attendance Month.ā The Attendance Campaign was launched in September 2017 to bring additional awareness to school attendance and dropout prevention and recovery to all students, family and staff. LAUSD supports the campaign by encouraging school sites to offer a variety of activities to promote attendance awareness including attendance incentives, parent workshops, attendance contests, announcements, and awards.
This new district-wide campaign is aligned with LAUSDās goal to reduce chronic absenteeism to no more than 7% and to increase the percent of students attending at a rate of 96% or higher to 72% or more as stated in the LAUSD Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). As LAUSD continues the efforts in promoting student attendance, the slogan, āI Rise. I Attend. I Matter.ā signifies our hope to empower each student to rise, attend every day, and create a life of meaning and purpose.
