To create, facilitate, and simplify long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between the creative industry in Los Angeles and the LAUSD Arts Education Branch, so that students receive the arts education they deserve.
The arts foster creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration -- skills needed to compete in the 21st Century workforce. Los Angeles is considered the creative capital of the world. One in six jobs in L.A. is in the creative industry (Otis Report on the Creative Economy of California 2015). Through surveys and campus assessments, findings indicate that many LAUSD schools do not even have basic resources in Theatre, Film/Media, Visual Arts, Music, and Dance. While budgets have increased district-wide, partners within the creative industry continue to help to provide students with a quality arts education.
Over the years, the Arts Education Branch has met with L.A.'s creative industry to discuss ways to better prepare students for their creative futures. The response has been nothing short of amazing! CIC partners sponsor citywide arts festivals, provide hands-on workshops, donate equipment for media programs, paint for visual arts, props and set walls for theatre, and chairs for music programs. Studio partners continue to host field trips where students are able to tour facilities, meet professional artists, and learn about career pathways they have never before imagined. For more information please contact:
