  • Threat/Workplace Violence Assessment & Management

Overview of the School Site and District Threat Assessment/Management

In 1999, LAUSD established guidelines for assessing and managing threats at schools. The Threat Assessment Team is comprised of an administrator, a mental health professional, and School Police, with consultation from the Office of General Counsel. The role of the multi-disciplinary Threat Assessment Team is to gather information and assess whether an individual poses a risk of violence at school and to develop an action plan to mitigate that risk. The threat assessment process is based on the landmark study of 37 school shooters conducted by the Secret Service and US Department of Education. In addition, LAUSD has established guidelines and protocol for addressing incidents of workplace violence as they relate to adults in schools and offices.
