Eligibility is based on a medical report from an eye doctor and an assessed need for intervention. The BL/PS Program serves eligible students with a documented vision loss that negatively impacts access to the core or the alternate curriculum, as appropriate. A major focus of Blind Partially Sighted Itinerant services is on the development of the VI expanded core curriculum skills: listening, self-determination, independent living, assistive technology, career education. The efficient use of residual vision, and braille instruction, is emphasized depending on the individual student’s need. Collaboration with general education and special education teachers, school staff and parents is essential.
