Deputy Chief Jose Santome was born and raised in South America. After immigrating to this country with his family, Jose grew up in the South Bay. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from California State University Long Beach, and is an adjunct professor at a local Community College. Deputy Chief Santome is also a graduate of the West Point Leadership Academy, FBI LEEDA – Command Institute, Keystone Foundational Class of the National Counter-terrorism Academy, and the CA POST Executive Development Course.
Deputy Chief Jose Santome became a member of the Los Angeles School Police Department in 1990. Jose promoted through the ranks after serving as a Police Officer, Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.
Deputy Chief Santome oversees the Administrative Services Bureau which includes the Department’s Investigative Services Division and the Administrative Services Division. The Bureau’s Investigative Services Division encompasses the Criminal Investigations Section and the Professional Standards Section, which includes; Internal Affairs Unit, Background Investigations Unit, Computer Recovery Unit, Threat Assessment Unit, and Special Investigations Unit. The Bureau’s Administrative Division encompasses the Training Unit, Fleet Management, Payroll Section, Budget Services Unit, Records Unit, Crime Analysis Unit, and the PAL/Explorers Unit.
Additionally, Deputy Chief Santome manages the Department’s Risk management database which tracks all incidents of Use of Force, Department Vehicle Accidents, Administrative and Citizen Complaints, Firearm Discharges, Pursuits, and Officer Involved Shootings.
Jose is an active member of several community and police organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, The Fraternal Order of Police, and is a past two-term President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association. Jose has served for six years as an appointed Traffic Commissioner for his hometown, including two years as Chair and one year as Vice Chair of the Commission. His personal interests include travel, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
