Overview
 

The School Nurses assigned to provide special education services from District Nursing Services work in the following areas:

  • Non Public Schools
  • Charter Schoools/Options/Private Schools
  • Infant and Preschool Special Education
  • Specialized Physical Health Care Procedures (protocols)
  • Assistance with students who require the mechanical ventilator protocol or licensed health care provider services
  • Assistance with students who have extensive health needs
  • Assistance with training and supervision of designated school personnel.
  • Assistance with standardized training for Health Care Assistants
  • Contracted health services for charter schools including Individualized Education Plan (IEP), vision and scoliosis mandates
  • Carlson Home Instructional Program and Hospital School

 

School Nurses are team members in the IEP process who
  • Perform health assessments
  • Write the Present Level of Performance Summary including educationally relevant health information
  • Participate in the IEP meeting
  • Recommend necessary services and accommodations for health reasons
  • Train and supervise designated school personnel to provide health related services defined in the IEP, including physical health care procedures
