Office of the Associate Superintendent

Welcome to the Division of Special Education website. I am honored to be leading an exceptional team of administrators, teachers, support staff and paraprofessionals who strive to inspire our students with disabilities to reach their maximum potential as productive and responsible citizens.

The goal of the Division of Special Education is to have our students have an enriched academic experience and become meaningful contributors to our society. We expect all of our students to surpass the expectations they have set for themselves. In order to achieve these goals, it is essential to have a variety of program options available for our students and to promote integration in the least restrictive environment to the maximum extent possible. We expect that our students will complete high school life-ready, career-ready and/or college-prepared.

We celebrate the diversity of our student population and look forward to working with our parents, school staff and community members in meeting the needs of all of our students in a collaborative partnership. We enrich the lives of all students by having our students with disabilities and general education students work together cooperatively in academic endeavors and social settings.

Please feel free to explore our website and become familiar with the departments, resources and announcements of the Division of Special Education. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our School and Family Support Services’ call center at 213-241-6701. We look forward to working together in supporting our students with disabilities in the 2016-2017 school year!

With Warm Regards,

Beth Kauffman
