  • We are pleased to announce the DOUBLE-HEADER for the Spring 2017 Autonomous School Workshops!

    Schools interested in having more autonomy over local decisions, to better meet the needs of their students, may choose to send a School Design Team to the required sessions.  Explore the three current autonomy models:  LIS, ESBMM and Pilot.



    WORKSHOP #1 - Overview:  Becoming an Autonomous School

    Topics may include:

       What autonomy means and how it may be implemented for maximum positive impact to your school

       How to create a culture of collaboration

       Dealing with adversity or conflict during the process


    WORKSHOP #2 - RFP Walkthrough and Model Specific Information

    Topics may include: 

       Building a better RFP

       Choosing the Autonomy Model that's right for your school

    • Workshop 1 – OVERVIEW: Becoming an Autonomous School

              Time:  9:00-11:30 am


    • Workshop 2 – Walkthrough of the RFP (Completing the Application)

              Time: 12:30 – 3:00 pm


    Representatives from a school must attend BOTH WORKSHOPS before a school is eligible to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) and proposal for one of the Autonomy Models.


    LOOC workshops are open to all: principal, chapter chair, other teachers, classified staff and parents from your school.

    Who should attend?

    These workshops are open to all:  Principal, Chapter Chair, Teachers, Classified Staff, Parents ~ a diverse Design Team provides different perspectives.


    Do we need to attend ALL sessions?

    School teams must attend ONE scheduled date of each session in order to qualify to submit an RFP.  So, you must attend one of the Session 1 – Overview dates, and one Session 2 – Walkthrough dates.  You may choose the date/location that is best for you.

Local Options Oversight Committee (LOOC)


The Los Angeles Unified School District's Local Options Oversight Committee (LOOC) is pleased to present the 2017 - 2018 Autonomous School Models Request for Proposal (RFP) process.  The Autonomous School Models RFP process invites teams to submit a proposal for one of the three voluntary school models:  Expanded School-Based Management Model (ESBMM), Local Initiative School (LIS), or Pilot School.  This year each autonomous school model has its own RFP document and template.  Interested teams should review the timeline and application process described in the RFP document for the autonomous school model they are interested in.  The following due dates apply to all three RFP documents:

September 1, 2017 Letter of Intent (LOI)

•   Must be submitted no later than 5:00 pm via e-mail to  LOOC@lausd.net .

•   Mandatory for ALL applicants; teams must submit a Letter of Intent in order to be eligible to submit a proposal.

•   LOI is non-binding; applicants may decide to NOT move forward with a proposal even if a LOI was submitted.

•   Applicants can: (1) check the "Undecided" box in the LOI form if they are unsure which model to choose; OR (2) submit one LOI for two or more autonomous school models they are considering.

October 17, 2017 Full Proposal Submission

•   Must be submitted no later than 12:00 noon via e-mail to LOOC@lausd.net

 •   All required documentation and attachments should be included.  Approved proposals will be for implementation in the 2015 - 2016 school year.  Copies of approved proposals will be posted on the LOOC website.
