The mission of Student Integration Services is to provide, through collaborative efforts, educational and tactical services related to compliance and policy issues, to provide support to students, teachers, parents, administrators, superintendents, and support personnel representing the Local Districts, and to ensure maximum success for the varied socio-economic and culturally diverse student population of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has a proud history of appreciating diversity, promoting equity and providing a rigorous instructional program. As the second largest school district in the country, we have a moral obligation to develop quality, integrated educational centers. LAUSD is one of the few school districts that are still under Court-Ordered desegregation. Student Integration Services respects and appreciates the opportunity to create and support our integrated Magnet settings.
We are proud of our Magnet programs. Historically, data indicates that LAUSD Magnet schools/centers outperform their host counterparts, other LAUSD schools and charter schools. In the most recent Smarter Balance Assessment, 55 percent of Magnet students scored higher than the state average.
LAUSD Magnet schools and centers continually receive State and Federal awards. Since 1986, seventy-eight Magnet schools/centers have been named as California Distinguished Schools. Additionally, fourteen Magnet schools/centers have been awarded National Blue Ribbon School status. Our community believes that the portfolio of Magnet programs provide a quality, viable choice for parents. As the demand for Magnet programs increased so has our capacity. Over the past five years we have increased the number of schools/centers and magnet seats. Currently, over 70,000 students attend one of our 214 Magnet programs. If LAUSD’s Magnet program were its own district, it would rank as the 52nd largest school district in the country (larger than Detroit and Boston School Districts). We are looking forward to opening 12 additional programs for the 2017-2018 school year.
Please do not hesitate to call 213-241-4177 if you have any comments, questions or concerns. Student Integration Services prides itself on the level of support it provides for our students, parents, schools and community.
