  • Student Recovery Day

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is implementing its Eighth Annual Student Recovery Day (SRD) on Friday, September 9, 2016. SRD is the kick-off event for "Student Attendance Month," a resolution adopted in 2012 by the Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles to support efforts to keep students in school and engaged in learning. With the help of volunteers, our goal is to identify students that are chronically absent, at risk of dropping-out, and re-enrolling those who have already left our schools. Your participation and support of this District-wide initiative is crucial.

Click here to register for Student Recovery Day 2016. Please be sure to register early, as the number of volunteers will be limited to 35 persons per school. Note: Registrants must use the Google Chrome browser to register for this event. If you have any questions regarding Student Recovery Day, please call Pupil Services at (213) 241-3844.

Initial Notification of Truancy Letter Central Automation

The central automation of Initial Notification of Truancy (NOT) letters for the 2015-16 school year resumed in October.  Reference Guide 5464.4 Initial Notification of Truancy (1st NOT) Central Automation and School Generated (2nd and 3rd NOT) Procedures is now available. Click here to access.

To ensure the correct identification of students as truant, schools must update attendance records for all excused absences, tardies, and/or leave earlies. Refer to REF-5464.4, School-Site Reference Sheet (Attachment A), to view the Initial Truancy Process Timeline, which includes the evaluation periods and central office mailing date. Schools may utilize the Uncleared Absences Report and the Unresolved Absences Screen to clear absences and help identify students who may qualify for truancy classification.  Here is the link to the MiSiS job aids:   http://achieve.lausd.net/Page/6104

Schools should continue to utilize the EZ Access Truancy Report to view students who qualify for the Initial NOT letter at your school site. This report is refreshed daily by 11:00 a.m. through the prior school day. Schools may also access the list of their students who have received a centrally generated Initial NOT by going to the Mailed Truancy Letter Report on EZ Access. Schools may access the Truancy Report and the Mailed Truancy Letter Report at the following link: https://ezaccess.lausd.net/MiSIS/Truancy.aspx.
